Wind power appears to have a bright future in helping to power countries like America and Canada as well as in Europe. Its potential rises to the level of someday being able to power 20% of America and already powers much of Denmark and Spain. However, in the western world, the future of wind power is based on many factors that are not very consistent. Supporters of wind power though point out that though the short term may seem bleak, in the long term, wind power is still an extremely important alternative energy resource. It is clean, renewable, and Americans are sitting on a gold mine of it, so to speak. It is also advisable that American companies get on it, as foreign companies are looking at America in much the same way and they have the money and time to put into the effort. Supporters also point out that the benefits of using wind power far outweigh the costs-benefits to the environment and the fact that there would be less dependency on foreign oil.
Harnessing the power of the wind has been a practice for centuries now and there is no reason to think that it will stop simply because of money issues. Although things are slowing down for wind now, there is no reason why it will stay that way. The technology is now available to make wind power easy to use and maintain and there is plenty of interest in continuing research into wind power. Therefore, those who are worried that wind power will be put on the back burner until it is forgotten should put their minds at ease. It may look rocky now, but the wind will always be blowing and so there will always be a reminder of a better source of renewable energy.

People have been utilizing the power of wind since as early as 5,000 B.C. when the Egyptians used wind powered boats to sail the Nile River.
